Game Dates
Hi all,
For the next rounds of both Earth and Utopia, we’re going to be changing the servers the games run on - this is why, as you may have noticed, all the games are ending on a similar date. Once we have moved, the games will once again be staggered, so you don’t have too many new nations/provinces to look after at any one time!
The exact dates for the games are:
Utopia: WoL - Ending on the 3rd of November. After that, there’ll be a freeze time of 2 days, and protection for 3 days.
Utopia: Gen - Ending on the 3rd of November. Genesis will take a short break for one or two weeks, to let people grow their WoL provinces a little, and then we’ll restart it.
Earth - The earth games council and limited are going to be extended by a week, until the 9th of November, and primary, alliance, and tournament will be extended until the 16th of November.
Apologies for the late notice and any confusion surrounding the dates, please bear with us as we work on moving the games to shiny new servers!
More information about the details of the new account management system will be posted in the coming days.

Will their be any changes? With EoA and the new age approaching it would be nice to have some time as a kingdom to plan a strategy. The changes would of course be an integral part of these plans.

OMAC you really are administering this game poorly. At this rate your player poo will consist of long time players only.

OMAC thanks for the update, keep up the good work. I am glad to hear about the new servers, hopefully this improves downtime and lag issues. Notify us when new race/perso changes are announced! Other than that I am pleased.

when they propose changing race/game balance, it’s “NO ONE CARES ABOUT THAT CHANGE THE UNDERLYING SYSTEM”
when it’s the underlying system its, “NO ONE CARES ABOUT THAT CHANGE THE RACE/ETC BALANCE”
it’s a lot to change.
letting account management in (which I think is crucial to this game! that’s why we see so many less people playing now) is important.
Game play changes have NEVER affected the overall membership. What has were things like reshuffles, deletion, etc.

nice move OMAC :) new servers are always welcome, and one login thing is really nice aswell. makes me considering to play genesis again. So far I like the road you guys have been following.
But I do have to agree with the blob, for i am curious aswell what the new round changes will be :) would be awesome to have more then 24 hours to think about next age setup and everything.

What time SPECIFICALLY on November 3rd will the game end?
What hour; what timezone? I assume OMAC isn’t in Texas and doesn’t operate on swirve’s adherence to CST…
And if it does end at midnight CST on November 3rd does that mean the day becoming november 3rd, or the day becoming november 4th?

zloiche hit the issue bang on. As did Someone. We play for 2 months planning on a specific end date and then you guys come out and throw this BS curve ball at us.
Don’t be surprised if you lose a lot of players over this! If you want to stagger the games then end them at the same time and start them a week later or something.

hex what i cant figure out was first ALLIANCE server got screwed with a un-announced 1 month set “so all servers can end on time so when they make changes it can all be done at once” now there extended them all so they end separate times again and keeping it that way, do a bunch on indecisive women run omac????

Omac is doing a very good job, I believe they will bring some good (and much needed) changes to the game.
But as it is with all businesses under new management, there will be a transition time - Get over yourselves, go mow the lawn or something in the meanwhile, and let the nice people do their jobs!

Sorry, this is utterly ridiculous. I’ve been playing Earth: 2025 for going on 10 years now and as humorously neglectful Mehul/Swirve was to the game, this takes the cake. As others have said, many of us spend a lot (too much) time playing operating under the assumption that we have 2 months to play a round. To give notice one day before the end of the set is inconsiderate and demonstrates what little understanding you have of the Earth community. Why couldn’t you just make the next round start later? So much for improving the game and bringing in new players… those efforts are going to be undermined by all of the longtime players you just pissed off.

Pft, whiners… there hasn’t been a single age where people haven’t complained about the changes. Eat it and play it… that’s what the majority of us do.
kuddo’s for OMAC’s proposed changes… curious how it will work (hope I can still login on my mobile phone).
Ofcourse we’re all curious about gameplay changes… but you can discuss them and your new strategies on IRC / IM’s with your KD.. so during freezetime you’ll have 2 days to talk and adapt.. enough time to pick the races and personalities matching the strategy you planned weeks ago.
Could be even funny to have the race changes published and applied after game start… that would really test your adaptive capacity and would make balancing the game a bit easier… you shouldn’t always want to plan all stuff… else you could aswell play against a CPU.
And yes I’ll get a lot remarks questioning my sanity… so what.

This is indeed ridiculous. You can compare this to a 100 meter dash where at 90 meters the competitors are told its actually a 400 meter race.
While some of the competitors might enjoy the fact they will not lose now, it has nothing to do with fair gaming. Just end the round at the set time, and delay the start of the new round so that they all start at the same time.
Its equally boring and that way you don’t ruin the fun of an entire round.

Just spent 2 months playing a strategy that was just thrown right out of the window.
Does OMAC realize how much time some of us spend running numbers to perfect our strategies based on a SET NUMBER OF TURNS per round?
I just wasted close to 20 hours of game play because of this.

Im another long term earth player, and I did in fact post, on sunday on the suggestions board (stop the FA cheating) that omac had their noses buried up utopia players arses with all the new changes they were making to that game, and sod all to ours, but this late change to the end dates just shows us all how much out of touch you are with our community.
Personally I dont Give A F*** as I was just about to jump from 19M to 90M when I got wind of this so I can still play turns and make an absolute killing with all these shenanigans, but boy have omac pissed a lot of people off, and it wouldnt surprise me if this was the death of earth as we know it
Maybe thats what omac wants, but sure as hell their management is WAY out of touch with the gaming that goes on!!

You cannot go and screw your Eath players by just adding another 10 days to the set, as we have to plan out weeks in advance when to stock and de-stock.

Another simple note to OMAC.
Changing the rules at the end of the game (yes, that’s what just happened) is in no one’s interest.
Disrespect is also in no one’s interest.
How do most players learn about this?
No, not by in-game message. Not an anoucement page. No. A simple change in date on the login page is all i got. Most other are learning about it through their clan’s site or on IRC clan channels.
That’s how much you think of those who play a game you just bought.

Indeed this was a BAD decision. Did you actually consider the consequences of this move? It was suggested that you end the set on 30th still and just wait a week to start the new one while you do whatever. I think this is the best option.
Dont waste many peoples efforts and time by going through with this move, the effects of this will be felt for alot longer than just these 10 days or so…

@zipi–If you ever escaped the game of Utopia and managed to come to Earth, you’d of learned that Earth goes by resets. They happen regularly and consistently. These players aren’t referring to Utopia.
@OMAC– Why do you have a Swirve blog, when in fact you have 2 different communities and games involved. These to communities are completely distinct. Failure to realize that is just another sign of being out of touch with the Earth community.

Well i have a few things first when i ran into the issue of a stupid person sending me message over message of inappropriate things i send a message and with in 12hr the guy was gone. ^^ fast reply this is the first time ive seen this happen with this game.
Second this slowness with the races and such is just ridiculous and then this blog is the same, the old forums were just fine but ill give you a point for trying to change things around a bit they do look nice.
We really didnt need an update of the ending date we need a message to tell us if there were going to be changes if not fine just tell us.
Last to all the people B@tching about this stfu! No one cares ok yes it suck but no on will care if you stop playing no one will care if your mad, your the only one that cares. This is a freaking game you play to have fun so relax and have some fun. Just wait or Quit either way STFU!

Actually it’s not that fun, Earth anyways, I’m just addicted to it and have obligations to people worldwide because of it. If my retirement didn’t affect so many people, I would just quit.
So ya, annoyances like this cause greater trepidation if you don’t think the game is that great to begin with.
Someone mentioned it earlier too… about the Earth/Utopia schism. Utopians talk about ages and races, etc which is a different language to me. It DOES show that OMAC isn’t exactly in tune with it’s customer base but that will come (but not a moment too soon).

Just to clarify what Earthers are feeling: we may or may not have something against the set ending not at the end of the month, that’s different for every player. I’ve played this game for 11 years (earth 2025).
This is the most frustrating move you guys could possibly have done after doing so well.
You could always just start the reset 16 days later….
WHY would you mess the game up for everyone who planned around the reset ending when it was supposed to - this is basically everyone not warring or 60% of the players of the game.

OMAC just got this game, and they are going to do pretty big changes. (account management, new servers aso).
If the road is rather bumbpy now for ous players, i can imagine how much stress there is on the OMAC office.

We’ve been waiting years to see these admin changes to utopia, yes, but we also want to see the standard gameplay changes that occur each age. I can honestly say (I think) I have never seen an age in Utopia where there have been changes made to the gameplay.
As for the end date, they have screwed me around significantly in what they have done. Those couple of days could hurt my kingdom’s start of age significantly now thanks to me having organised my RL around the supposed end-date a week back when they started advertising it as the 1st.
OMAC, we’re trying to be understanding, you just got it and are making significant changes, but you need to understand people organise and plan a considerable amount of time in advance for these things. To suddenly change it with next to no notice is going to hurt everyone in the game considerably. It’s the lack of notice on the changes we’re objecting to, not the changes themselves.
Poor form all around with the age change, OMAC. I trust we will not see this level of disorganisation for future ages

I lodge a protest at changing the game end times this late (for Earth 2025). Prior to this change, I was looking at a Top 250; now, I don’t know where I’ll finish. Any end time changes need to be made within a set’s first month. After that, people have entered into a stocking phase. Furthermore, many alliances will plan wars to last just two weeks. I grant you, ending a war is easier than re-entering netgaining (which I more than likely cannot succesfully do). Please restore the set’s end date.

Just so you know the ramifications of the change you’ve made to this round of Earth, here are the practical aspects. Forgive my abbreviations, but you should probably learn them anyway:
- The military market is crashing and will crash further as MBRs will scramble to try to gain some NW
- Every non-MBR government that has already jumped is now more or less screwed.
- Demos and others who haven’t jumped are going to get grossly inflated final scores from the crashing military market
- In short, the majority of the round’s top players will suffer, the late jumpers will be rewarded, and most of the server will sit on their hands, unable to play the game while the round gets all screwed up.

Please make our game easier next age. We don’t care about building eff, state of happiness etc etc. We want raw easy numbers to crack and rock with, with 6 to 8 races to choose from.
Back to basic easy warring, attacking, thieving, back to fun!

Utopia WoL is the main game, thats where the most players play. Its where we have the most new players come and go. Its important that it run smoothly, that all the bugs are worked out before being in actual game play situations. Its not the same as compiling and testing for coding errors. How the changes affect game play with players is just as important.
Thats the reason for Genesis. Its the “experimental” server for a reason. So that changes can go smoothly when implementing them into WoL. Not to mention the players in Gen are not new and usually play WoL. That speeds up the learning of the changes because some players have some experience with them.
Please dont give me the same crap as usual. Having some sort of step by step guide on changes cant be helpful as you think. There are so many different styles of game play and no single one is correct. Its hard to see or know that, if you have not been a part of our community.
Please dont make changes to game play during the age just because (enter any reason). What was done during the last half of Genesis has left a bad taste in my mouth. I personally was so discussed that after withdrawing from a war that we won hand down I deleted my account. I never want to play Gen again and unless you want to run off what players we have left in WoL. DONT DO THAT AGAIN!
You want to make changes, make them at SOA with some heads up on GEN. Work through the problems and speak with players, dont just wait for the complaints to start. After fixing the coding and adjusting for players then you implement the changes in WoL at the SOA.
I never wanted to pay for anything, but was considering it because I love the game. After what was done in Gen this age I will not be paying for that kinda mismanagement (comes from not playing the game). I only hope that its not the way you do business overall. If it is how you do business or intend to do business. Do me the curtsy of an email so I can save my money and the trouble of going any further with you.

You say that Utopia is where most of the players go? Fine. Does that give OMAC the right to give us the shaft?
Like people have said, it is not the fact that they changed the end dates that we have a problem with. It is the lack of notice. Even two weeks earlier would have made a world of difference. Those of us who are running a TMBR jump are screwed as soon as our stock is gone.
We can TRY to resell, but it’s not feasible with the market collapse. OMAC, please wake up and smell the coffee…. Start managing the games with a little more tact. If you can’t handle that, maybe you should hand the games over to someone who can.

It’s ridiculous as said before…
the Utopian people doesn’t know why.
I played Utopia years ago in the once so proud ES alliance, so I know the differences.
Utopia is just build grab and grow. and the ages mostly have no set end date.
Earth has a fixed 1 (tourny) or 2 month set and is stocking food, convert government and destock at the planned date and jump in NW. So that’s time depended. Now we’re all stuck.

yea sounds like earth should have just been ended at original end time and restarted with a delay. I doubt anyone in Omac plays earth and the problems probably weren’t fully understood.

I don’t like to be negative. I think that OMAC are trying to revamp the game with these KD selectivity changes. Potentially it is good.
But I have to agree with the people asking for changes to the race,personalities, buildings etc.
The game has remained almost the same for the last 2 ages - last age Mehul didn’t want to change the game as he wanted to give OMAC a product almost the same as on the day they purchased it.
The last big change to the game was the one to the Science System. Please don’t make the game the same for my KD for 3 ages in a row. As we are one of those KDs that is already established and we are unlikely to recruit more than one/two players next age.

The thing i’d like to see a change to is Build Efficiency. It should be tweaked so that rebuild times are faster. Ie. wizard pumps are shorter etc.
TM/raze is more damaging as buildings overall do more. It will add a new dimension in how wars are carried out and reduce Out of War times. I remember someone else brought this up last age and Mehul was interested in implementing it. Look into it again.

oh yeah and note to all the people who complain about ( i have been planning for 2 months now im all fudged up and many people will quit becaus of 3 days) think about this. when omac posted his last blog input the reset time was put on the 3rd. and everybody is “screwed equally” so you dont really lose mush. and if you leave a game becaus they reset the server on the day they announced it was going to be reset but you were to stupid to think it was another day. then maybe you deserve to go play somthing else like… idk dora the explorer or something and learn how to count.

Just make sure you make solid changes to WoL. Everyone will forget backing up the end date if you make a lot of changes to the game. the old player are bored…
I would:
Add 2 more races
change at least 1 thing on each of our 6 races
add 1 personality
tweak something on each personality
add 2 more spells
add 2 more thievery operations.
add a new buildings
increase the power of ops that aren’t used that much.
races don’t have to perfectly balanced, thats what makes the game fun is trying to come up with the best combo own others.

i’ve played both earth and utopia, if you cant adjust to the game running longer than announced then, quite simply, you are shit at strategy - everyone has to adjust to it the same as you do. saying that stuff is completely ruined is blowing shit out of proportion. it’s annoying sure, but not unsurmountable.

Bishop, you clearly do not understand how netgaining works in Earth. Not everyone is in a position to “adjust” on the last 2 days of a round. Some people have already spent their stockpiles to optomize their finish and will have a very difficult time playing any turns over the next 16 days.
If you played any strategy correctly you would know that you can’t just “adjust” to such an enormous change.

Aye Bishop you are wrong. Not everybody is “in the same boat”. There are strategies that are stuck at the moment and there are strategies that are still gaining maximum income per turn. Those last players get a week longer stocking which can amount to 30-40M NW advantage. Thats about 25% of the current rank 10 in council server, for free. Its quite possible the winner of the round is someone that wouldn’t have even gotten rank 300 at the original end time.
Aside from those big gainers (thats an extreme example), there are also smaller differences, and its not depending on any kind of wit if you can benefit or not, its pure luck or bad luck. The choice of endgame was made 2-3 weeks ago, or for some even longer. This choice determines if you are now lucky or unlucky.

Yeah what Sir Mordecae said that the set end date being changed within the last two days of the set has completely screwed some people but left others relatively ok.
For example, someone who is a rep casher should have been destocking since around the 25/26 this means that they would have dumped almost all if not all of their stock. This means that they would have effectively 0 stock to continue to play, even if they are a demo they couldnt resell because they have nothing to purchases the initial bushels with.
Someone who is a TMBR, if they still had stock they could still be reselling however, the market prices due to the sudden change will affect this greatly. So very little increase in final networth would be seen, i would expect less than 10Mil net, but i have little experience in TMBR.
Yet someone who was lazy, away, etc who didn’t start destocking on the correct date and therefore would not have finished destocking before the set ended now would have ample time to continue stocking. This means that now that the end date is moved by 9 days they could stock perhaps another 120Mil bushels, dump this, this turns in approx $4Bil which equates to perhaps 20-30mil net depending, once again, on market prices, also if these guys are demo they could still be reselling throughout the entire time if the bushel price falls again.
So clearly, depending on strats being played, how good the player is, if they start destocking late the change of end date GREATLY effects everyone in VERY different ways.

I believe working on making the game better even if it took 2 extra months… Just give some folks some better notification of what you are doing… Don’t just decide oh lets do this and not tell anyone untill its 2 late…. The Omega is going to base our netgaining awards on the better of our members ranks at either 24:00 GT on October 30th or at the end of the game. This effectively negates OMACs decision for our alliance.
I would like to echo the comments of other Earthers in telling the Utopians to either play Earth 2025 and learn what you’re really talking about or simply be quiet. Earth: 2025 is not Utopia. Our strategies are very planned out, often times to the very last day. OMAC should have kept the proper end dates and delayed the game start times; that would have been more effective and it would have been welcomed by Earthers (a bit of a vacation and more time for Pacting Season).

Why is there a downtime for 2 weeks for Genesis?
Why can’t OMAC just extend the game like they have done with Earth 2025, for Geneis, we’ll have 2 more weeks to mess around with instead of having a down-time, 2 weeks, no Genesis isn’t what people want, Genesis, I use it as a experimental server for my build or final product on World of Legends. So it’d be nice if I could keep playing for another 2 weeks and keep logging into both my accounts every now and then.
As for Earth 2025, sucks for the end dates being changed, good luck to the Earth community in adapting to the changes.
Oh yeah, OMAC, rewrite the “The Guide” it’s so outdated, it’s not nice. I could rewrite the entire guide if I was paid to do it. =P

BloodyFart, why not letting genesis run extra time thats because the guy said it himself. reason is why they finish at the same time is because of all the changes to account management(why u login to Utopia) and servers. if they let genesis run longer so will WoL. if you read previous blogs you will see it. perhaps its the purchase-versus when they need to put it in for service to kicks in etc..i could go on but there is millions of things going on.

Lordwarallied - ignorance is when you call an earth player who rightly complains about the end date being changed on the last day a whiner, because you do not know the consequences this has for the players.
I have played both games, although Utopia not recently, and as a Utopia player I would consider a change of age end pretty trivial, although the end of an age can be wholesome at some time. Ages can get boring in the end.
For earth its a disaster to shift end dates, as has been pointed out by many earth players.
I don’t mind Utopia players commenting to the effects these decisions have on Utopia play, but I very much resent those who seem to not even realize that there are also earth players commenting here. And those I call ignorant. And yes especially if they didn’t realize we were talking about earth that term DOES apply.

It is now May 11, YR12 and THE GAME ISN’T RESTARTED YET!!!!! Mehul used to take 30mins and it would be right back up by 12:30am… we are now 10 hours into the day.. and people are still able to attack.. resources and training isn’t happening but my military is sure counting down..

What is this time? It is May 17th YR12 UT and all is the same. Is this freeze time? Then it should be January 1st YR 0 and all should be new. When do we get to see changes, log in new race/personality/name? When do we see who gets to follow the KD to the next age?
When do we start the game. Just giving a date without time zone has an accuracy of 24 hours. That is a lot to miss of protection time.
This is too confusing.

I’ve been reading your comments over the last few days, and I’ve noted a general dissatisfaction with the lack of information about game changes. We were originally considering not making any changes this round due to extreme time pressure and a desire to get the game started on time - however, we recognize that game changes are a key part of people’s expectations for a new round.
For that reason, it has been decided to delay the game start date by another 3 days - meaning two-day freeze time officially begins Friday, November 6th at midnight GMT. The game may be available to sign up a little before then, but this is the official start of freeze. The round will still end on schedule, so this means a little free (or forced) vacation for all of you!
…..so does that mean the game starts up Sunday?

Well, this server changeover must be giving OMAC some serious headaches for them to be this late on their start up target time.
Personally, I will just keep checking in every day until I see that my old account has been deleted as I requested/used preferences to achieve. I find it odd that even though I manually deleted my account when I saw that it was in freeze mode in the same lame KD I was in, my account still remains active and I cannot create a new one unless I use a new account name etc, which I am loathe to do. Not exactly what I would call being on top of things. At the very least, account deletions should have taken place.
So…methinks OMAC is having server issues. You guys should know by now that programming NEVER goes as planned…that would be miraculous.
Just kick it, take a walk outside and enjoy the fall season because winter is coming with a vengence. Go rake up all the leaves in your yard and maybe even your neighbor’s yard as well. When you have a HUGE pile….jump into them! Just make sure that the pile is closest to your neighbor’s yard so that most of the leaves fly back that way….heheh
Honestly folks…there really is more to life than these games. Sure, it’s disappointing when things get changed but life IS change. If you can’t deal with change in a game, you are screwed for the great big world outside your door where NOTHING is set in stone.
I tried out Earth several times…while there were changes each time, one thing remained consistent…it sucked for me…I hated it…and have not been back. It is an aquired taste I guess.
Everyone take it easy….the games will begin when they do and nothing you post here will change that.

Yeah, but the thing is people make plans as to the REST of their lives as well. The complete lack of communication from OMAC has been terribly irresponsible.
Players organize chats, logins and etc…to work with eachother and schedule discussions regarding who has signed in to do what as well as offer advice to the few new players we may get in out KDs.
IF the game won’t start till March, FINE…tell us. If there is a problem going from IIS 6.0 to another web server…FINE tell us…if there is just some other stuff, just give us a hard date we can plan around.
Silence = Screwed.
Zero consideration for the players will not get them more players, which, since it is an ad supported game, I’m sure they are hooping to achieve. I realize this…so I also realize that this is costing them money…We just want to be kept in the loop to make plans.

i dont think OMAC realises that without us ( the players) there is no game no company and finally no MONEY i’ve played on and off since 2000 and it’s been run fine if there were problems you were told about them but this total BLANK (which is what it feels like) is tottaly unprofesional of them how on earth do they expect us to spread the word if we all leave it’s not like they mass advertise or anything they rely on us the players to get freinds family co-workers ect. to join and the way things are going i know myself i won’t be recruiting anyone. So OMAC if you are looking at this all it take is an e-mail just a rough date, let us know if your having problems,cause all your doing now is turning us all away and that is not good for business

NEW CHANGES POSTED
Update - The server move has been completed, however the DNS changes are taking longer than usual to propagate. Once the DNS changes take full effect, we will do some final testing on some of the game modifications. It is expected that access to the new round will be available at some point tomorrow (Saturday).

uhmm, this is very unprofessional OMAC…we understand that things get screwy when you’re switching over and changing stuff, but for ppl’s sake you should set a date where you are SURE 100% that servers will be up and running, not some random date to give gamers hope…only to be disappointed that you couldn’t meet the deadline.
C’mon folks! If you want to show you’re good, make your word good. We’ve all been sitting around for 4 days (when you said it was only 1 day) Heck just say, “it might take as long as 5 days to a week before it’s all set and going” then we’ll all patiently wait…but this is madness!!!

Well there I was ,just minding my own buisness, when somebody decided to start playing games. I started a new game in A ,but still recieving scores from the previous game. Now I get on and find that the game is suddenly over,and starting a new game from the 17th.Is there anybody in charge of the site or what?
