Some clarifications

Today we issued our first Utopia newsletter update, but as I am sure many of you will have changed your emails or the mail may have ended up in spam, I am posting the main points again here:

WoL and Genesis both end on Monday 3rd Nov, WoL will restart on Tuesday 4th Nov wheras Genesis will take a break for 1-2 weeks, and then be restarted. Game ending times for both games will be significantly different. The fact that they’ are both starting so close together is a once-off.

We have added some new features. The first thing you’ll see when you log in on the next round is a new account system and UI.
Let’s get the premium one out of the way first.

1. Province Sitting

This is the official province sitting option. It is the *only* official sitting option. You’ll see the function in your shiny new account section. In short, it costs 25c/day with the following rules:

-Players may only sit one province at a time -The minimum number of sitting days in any one sitting session is 3

-The maximum number of sitting days over the age (per province) is 21

-Only players within your KD may sit your province

-Only the player who is sitting the province may access it during this time, however, the original owner may cancel the sitting, after the initial period (3 days) is over

-Province sitting will end when the player a) runs out of credits, b) runs out of maximum allowable number of days, or c) cancels the province sitting

You will see where you can purchase this in your main account. Currently, it accepts Paypal but we have premium SMS on the way in a few days.

2. Province Moving

Province moving is now official but STRICTLY limited per round:

-The maximum number of moves allowed *per account* is 3
-The maximum number of moves *per KD* is 3

You can physically move your province into another KD with the following conditions in place:

-The moved province will revert to its initial state, with initial resources/cash, and 3 days of protection

-You cannot move province if there is no space in the KD

-The Monarch in the receiving KD must always approve the move

3. Province Trading

Province trading is now official but STRICTLY limited per round. Just to be completely clear, province trading is taking over a province which used to belong to another player. The rules are as follows (all on a per round basis unless otherwise specified):

- You can switch provinces with another person - provinces don’t move, only the player controlling the province changes

-The maximum number of trades allowed per province is 3

-The maximum number of trades allowed per account is 3

-The maximum number of trades allowed per KD is 3

Province trading behaviour is as follows:

- You can take over someone else’s province, and destroy your own in the process

- You can take over someone else’s province, and leave your old province in the Monarch’s control - who can then assign it or let it be destroyed, but not log into it

- KDs can earn bonus trades. Note that this system is experimental.

We want to allow people sufficient freedom to trade, but also prevent abuse of the system, with people creating farm KDs.

This system will be tweaked over time, with player input. Initially, it will work like this:

Every month:

-Each KD will get 1 bonus trade

Every 2 weeks

-The top 50 KDs in terms of NW/Honor will get an additional 1 trade

Every 3 weeks:

-The top 100 KDs in terms of NW/Honor will get an additional 1 trade

Every 4 weeks

-The top 250 KDs in terms of NW/Honor will get an additional 1 trade

Additional Bonus Trade Behavior

- if you rank for both NW and Honor, you will only be allocated *1* bonus trade

- if you qualified for the last round of bonus trades, you will not be selected for the next e.g., if you are in the top 50, you will be automatically disqualified for the next top 100 and top 250 rewards.

Finally, we will be transferring all games across to new servers over the next few days so you might see a little downtime.

    great job ;)

  2. Palem Says:

If I didn’t get an email does that mean OMAC doesn’t have my email and I won’t get my activation code?

  3. Dillbert Says:

Worst changes ever suggested? It’s high up the running order!

  4. kira Says:

    Paying money for sitting… ouch

  5. SoShaan Says:

I dont think the top 50 KD’s should get anything. 51-100 and 101-200 can receive trades to get to the top 50 but I dont believe strengthening the already strong KD’s promotes a fair gaming environment.
For the top 50 being world ranked is the prize. Not to mention there is a “the world” section dedicated to top KD’s. Give the the option of having their rank added to the first part of the KD name. “The Famous Kingdom of ???” Or “The World Honor Ranked Kingdom of ??? “, “The Kingdom of ??? the 35th Strongest Kingdom known to man”. Something along those lines.
No bonuses for Alliance Groups, they are often filled with good players and have no trouble filling empty slots. They dont see much in the way of random attacks or land only waves from KD’s picking on getto’s.

and I dont mean to point out the dead horse, but……

    Race/Persona/Game play changes???????????????????

  6. jacob Says:

    @ SoShaan….
wot difference would it make if the top 50 didnt get bonus trades and those ranking 51-100 did?….only means those ranking 51-100 would be better off and no doubt make it into the top 50 and thus bump one of those members who were in the top 50 down to a rank of between 51-100 and therefore giving them the bonus trade anyway…..Just means with ur method that in the long run a lot more kds get bonus trade then if it were just to be the top 50….
u wuld also get kds that wuld try dropping below the top 50 to open up the free trade option and who would then climb back into the top 50…

  7. wow Says:

    you’ve just destroyed KD building.

Now everyone just trades instead of building up their own kingdom and teaching people.

Just because catwalk cried for trading to be legal you made it so?

  8. Marc Says:

Stupidest changes in all of Utopia History… I kinda want to quit after 6yrs of playing because of it. There better be some race/personality changes or SOMETHING useful. OMAC, you’re killing it faster than it was dying..

  9. MorbidAngel Says:

I like changes. Good balance imo, althou trading credits stuff still needs a bit of balance.

As for pay-to-xlog, that is logical move that I expected. Like in every game, u will get some bonus if u pay with money. This is a bit better than giving players clear in game advantage in more income or w/e. They are paying for proxies anyway, and sitting for one war will cost like $1 per province which isn’t much, even for me..

  10. SoShaan Says:

    @jacob/Jolt
Personally I dont agree with any of this trading crap. Its been aginst the rules for a reason.
    @jacob
I do see your point, but I feel that maybe the 50-40 could do what you describe.
Do kingdoms ever lose their trades? Because a top KD would collect alot of trade credits over the age.

  11. Catwalk Says:

MorbidAngel, don’t agree with you about the sitting proposal. It will be widely used for other purposes than actual sitting, especially during wars. There needs to be some kind of advance notice to activate sitting, so you can’t just swap in your A team whenever you war.

  12. SoShaan Says:

Jolt… Please clarify your statements on the timing. You say month.. That means 2 different time periods. You say every two weeks Im sure you mean 2 (RT) weeks.. (RT) = Real Time (Another part that jolt will have to pick up on.)
As it pertains to this post its OK, but future posts that have to do with internal game timing should be clarified. You can do it with a simple (UT) or (RT).

  13. Madness Says:

I highly disagree with how the bonus trades are allocated. Why give bonus trades to kingdoms that are obviously in good shape and sit in the top 50 already? In my opinion, kingdoms *outside* of the top 50/100 are the ones that should get bonus trades so they can attempt to pull people in and compete with those already in the top 50. The goal should be, as always, to try and even things out. Giving good kingdoms more opportunities to trade only separates the gap between the rich and poor.

  14. TheGreatSirX Says:

The three WORST IDEAS EVER are just.. allowed now?

    ARE YOU HIGH?!

I remember when this game was cool…

  15. Devient Says:

First time posting, but i’ve been following everything said in these blogs and the forums.

I’m confused: Is this only applied towards WoL or is it both?

And, I also don’t know why you will reward the *already predictable* top kingdoms. Just doesn’t make sense why you will further divide the top from the bottom.

Anyways, this is getting a bit rediculous, and where are the gameplay changes?

  16. Harry Says:

Dont like any of the changes made, will quit after playing so long. Its not utopia that we played, work for kd by teaching others and balancing everything is what we hv done for years of play. But trading ll just ruin everything, I m sure many of good players with good playing spirit ll quit this game:(

  17. Skymouse` Says:

    Pay for Sitting? Trading Bonus?

I don’t think it’s a good idea. Firstly OMAC must specify whether proxy is allow. For example, I will sometimes login to my school intranet (VPN) for work related stuff and I will use the School Network to login Utopia using the school’s IP address ( Still consider Proxy right?). Clarify how the IP detection system works and how it can affect Sitting for another Prov. Trading Bonus will only encourage ppl to create KD farms in a long run, of coz it also make the game more fun as you can now play with your frens. But where do you draw the line? Doesn’t sound like a good idea isn’t it?

  18. MRJB Says:

This will ultimately destroy the game, OMAC is doing a terrible job with making this game a fun learning experience. With all the power gaming a cheating I’m most likely going to call this my last age unless the idea is revoked, just like many others, I feel sickened by this plan.

  19. MRJB Says:

Catwalk, how much did you pay OMAC for this.

  20. Idlewild Says:

I really dont like the idea either but the reality is that top kingdoms will trade no matter what.. It makes sense to finally make it legal so that Kingdoms that choose to play the game fairly can have the option to bring in some extra talent.

Many players like to develop others. It is sad when the teachers leave a Kingdom and it becomes a total ghetto. The trade option will allow for other teachers to move in and help turn these ghetto’s around.

I just want to point out that this may work two ways. I have played since the first age of Utopia and I know there are both kinds of people out there. It will balance itself out.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Many players are younger and dont have the option to allow for them to purchase babysitting time for their account. In order to be fair you MUST allow for those of us who can pay a little to share credit with other players. Otherwise it is unfair. Some countries don’t allow for paypal either.

  21. goodz Says:

You still haven’t mentioend what you intend to do as far as game mechanics, I dont think I ever recall an age in history in which there was no change from the last age. I don’t want to play a round identical to last…

  22. goodz Says:

btw allowing trading does not = game mechanics

this random bs is just some shit i have to live with, the top kingdoms trade anyways these credits and what not seem like an over complex situation as this isn’t really abusable it is easy to trade legal or illegal

  23. Gumbyagain Says:

As usual the people responsible for improving the games have dealt it a serious blow.

All the trade credits in the world are not going to help. ESP when the most credits are given to the greatest threats to the common player. I do not recall any time in the history of Utopia that such non sense was proposed & approved & put into action.

I too have been here since the early ages and feel a weakened desire to remain.

  24. www.utopia-blog.com Says:

Whoa, you’re destroying the game with the first change. I bet after two new ages I have to quit because I like the mediocre kd I’m in, but it won’t be competetive enough with all the super-kds emerging from this change. I think you should’ve updated the game, not legalize trading :-/

  25. Mantra Says:

Any special reason you want to improve kingdoms which allready are doing fine?

Giving extra bonus to those who allready are doing good seems pretty weak..

  26. brenton Says:

I do not see how rewarding the top kds is a good idea at all.

i thought the purpose of this whole legalisted trading/sitting was to bring ghettoes and top kds closer together, not distance them.

Most of the other ideas look ok, but definitely no need for added trades. Make it uniform for all kds.

  27. Crippler ICD Says:

You Utopian’s complain way to much..

  28. gNoLEm Says:

    Time for a different sound.

“OMAC I like it, implement those changes!!”

As being part of a mid ranged ghetto (like 80% of the players) I like this option very much, and this is why:

I’m a strict monarch who was put in charge to fix my kd. I rule with an iron fist, doing so I try to make the game as enjoyable for my active serious players as possible. I very much like players who put in effort to learn the game, regretfully these players are scarce. We were doing terrible though before I came to power, 30-40% of the kd is filled with inactives/semi-inactives. Continuously throughout the age I am forced to kill inactives/semi-inactives: people who find out about this game, login 3 (or 7, or 21 .. etc.) days and then just forget about it. In the process these people ruin the gameplay for the rest of my kd. It’s bloody annoying having to deal with this type of player the entire frikkin’ age. This change could mean I can finally fill up my kd with serious people, giving us the break we need to compete with top 50 kd’s. Please don’t give me this “kd building” mumbo jumbo. I have the feeling people bringing up this point have lost their grip with reality. I too interact with new players, trying to get them motivated. But something that has been clear to me from day 1 is that it requires initial motivation and eagerness to learn from the player itself. I can jump through all the hoops I want, if the player doesn’t take this game seriously, it’s a lost cause. It’s not like you join a Quake server, make some frags and disconnect again. If you like “kd building”, make it as appealing as possible and try and attract good players to join you. Not everyone wants to wait 15 ages to build a good and proper kd. Some ambitious people like to do it in 1 or 2 ages.

Super ghetto’s will remain super ghetto’s. This change at least makes mid ranged provinces more competitive and might give them the extra nudge they need to compete with top kd’s. The top kd’s will trade regardless.

I think this option could also attract new players, or old players who gave up on the game. I myself have friends who quit utopia a few times and confronting these old utopia friends with these upcoming changes they seem interested in giving it another go themselves. Also other in real life friends who have never played seem eager to start. Finally we can be in the same kd (again) .. something which very much appeals to us non-cheating-traders.

Do your changes OMAC. Let’s see what happens. People saying “oh oh I’ve played for 15 ages now but this is so bad it’s making me think of quitting”, aren’t the players who you want in your game anyway. I played just as long and I’m not gonna cry or blackmail about quitting when something doesn’t go my way, that’s the cowards way out. I don’t think you’ve played 15 ages anyway if you’re so easy in saying you’re gonna quit the game. This is not the end of the world, in fact it’s the beginning of creating a far more competitive exciting game.

  29. yiiman Says:

So does this mean you can indirectly change your Race/Personality midway in the age?

There should be some control over that I think. Well i’m not sure whether it perhaps can be abused. I just really don’t want to see an Age just full of the same dominate race after like Yr 3 when players realise they have chosen badly and hence switch over to the race that seems to be dominating.

Though also this can be good as some people who chose badly at the start of the Age can be given a clean start with a more interesting race without losing their KD.

  30. MorbidAngel Says:

    Catwalk;
“MorbidAngel, don’t agree with you about the sitting proposal. It will be widely used for other purposes than actual sitting, especially during wars. There needs to be some kind of advance notice to activate sitting, so you can’t just swap in your A team whenever you war.”

I do understand, but you must understand that OMAC is company and as one they want to earn profit. It is in their interest that ppl use premium feature as much as possible.

  31. celien Says:

18 free traders per age hmm do i even wanna kick that many ppl

  32. Micke- Says:

a real topnotch kd wont trade that many accounts in and out anyway, its already filled with good and active people. However every now and then someone drops out due to irl or loss of intrest to the game and thats when the trading occours.

so this wont really benefit the best of the best since those kd’s usually manage to pull off with 1-2 trades an age or less.

Instead I think this will help to bring the kingdoms struggling to keep up with the kd’s I mentioned above, bring the top scene closer together for more competitve gaming (thats something we all like dont we? I guess not :/ but I do!) and more intense gameplay.

  33. crushed Says:

im absolutely crushed by the changes, its just sick to see that utopia actually has to implement some kind of pay system into the game play whether people utilize it or not

i remember when i tell my friends about utopia, they’ll always ask something along the lines of “oh, is that the kind of game that you play for free initially then later on if you wanna get actually good you need to pay real money for it like to buy items or something”

and ill always be very proud to answer that utopia does not involve in any type stuff that will require players to pay real money to get better. now i see i can never say that anymore since xlog is allowed through paying

omac must be fkin laughing when they are cashing in on people paying to xlog, it is also obvious now their intentions to implement a direct profit route into this game rather than coming up with new changes to the game and such.

  34. WolfDGrey Says:

    GG OMAC.

Finally some opening for a decent modern game system suitable for… allmost 2009.

    Cheers!

Now we only need to see the race/pers/builds changes for next age.

    For people who forgot:
OMAC is not Mehul. Mehul’s rules and guidelines were obsolete for a VERY long time.

OMAC is a business like any other. Of course they will update the game to 2009’s realities, without much regard to what YOU, the ones who can’t ever change are used to.
They need and will make money out from the game. I’m glad they didn’t implement a system where you directly pay for resourses like other games do.

  35. Ryba Says:

I like the changes, my only suggestion is around the “bonus” trades stuff. If you keep it this way, you promote a “rich get richer” and “poor get poorer” model where as if you flip it you promote more balance.

So I’d personally suggest something like
STARTS AT WEEK 4 (cause SK’s sometimes stay super small so they can honor rape ghettos on their rise to the top)

    KD’s ranked 250 - 9999 = 1 trade per week
    KD’s ranked 100 - 250 = 1 trade per 2 weeks
    KD’s ranked 50 - 100 = 1 trade per 4 weeks

Also make sure the trades do not pile up. So even if a KD’s ranked 200 or whatever who don’t use up a trade after 6 weeks still has only 1 trade bonus. Do not let them stack up cause that is asking for abuse as well and not keeping with the spirit of the game.

  36. rosedragon Says:

I hope we still can change email every new round.

  37. L33tgion Says:

I think the province trading is not fair. If people leave utopia, then they have no right to end up with their previous KD.

When I played 2 ages ago I had to quit for several months. My Monarch asked for my province. Said there were 3 players from my country waiting on list. I said no and deleted my province.
Players now are already running more than one province in a KD by using different IP addresses. With prov trading now legal give it some time a KD will have 25 provinces run by far less players (combine the legal and different IP addresses). Then the one running 3 provinces can make coordinated strikes at wish. Abusive players like these always find a way to rack up war wins.

I can’t believe you thought up this kind of crap. Why not just make changes to the race/personalities and stuff.

  38. Soshaan Says:

The sitting option doesnt make since unless they intend to take vacation mode away. Because why would someone pay to “sit” for only 3 days?? WTF is going to happen in that amount of time? I hope they do not intend to take away the ability for people to go on vacation.

-Players may only sit one province at a time -The minimum number of sitting days in any one sitting session is —>3<—-

-Province sitting will end when the player
    a) runs out of credits,
    b) runs out of maximum allowable number of days, or
    c) cancels the province sitting

Other than option “c” what happens to the account ofter the sitting ends. Don’t say delete, because if I pay more money on top of premium account charges so I can “sit” but after 3 days you take my money and delete the account anyway.

  39. Sjoerd Says:

Great news in general! I think this changes will improve the quality of the majority of the kingdoms of the game. The “Province Trading” stimulates war and nw whoring, as you get bonus credits because of your ranks. Better it stimulates even more that kd’s war in the top of nw, so the changes are negative for the pure whorers (that use FW’s) and negative for the small ghetto honor rapers (that intra-kd raze). I expect that many old players will return to the game through the “Province Moving”, our kd has already 3 old players that will rejoin their old kd. The “Province sitting” option will lead to more intense wars, which is nice as well.

Few Comments on the initial changes:
    - “Province Sitting”: make abuse during war impossible. I fear that many warring kd’s will have to pay $5,25 per province per age to have it 100% active in war as a prerequisite to stay competitive. 21 days a prov and a min time of 3 days per sitting round makes it possible that a king can legally X-log an inactive player during 7 wars of 3 days. The king that pays and X-logs most wins the war, this is against the spirit of the game.
    - “Province Moving”. Totally fine. 3 is not so much if you want to get more old players return to the game. I would suggest giving also bonus moves instead of bonus trades, because for trades people still need to be convinced to trade (like it always worked in the past).
    - “Province Trading”. The basics are great, 3 trades per kd is good. The bonus trade system is excessive I think. For my kingdom (top 50 honor and top 250 nw) it would result in 8-11 bonus trades per age. We 3 bonus trades (standard) + 3 bonus trades (because 75% of the age of top 50 honor) + 2 bonus trades (because 66% of the age in top 250 nw) + additional bonusses (up to 3 per age for ranking both nw+honor, which is a bit unclear to me how it would work anyway). So please lower the amount of bonus trades.

  40. Erafiel Says:

Looks good. Interesting changes to be sure. And I’m positive it’ll attract new and old players back to the game, without a doubt.
    A few comments in general:

Top kingdoms dont trade as much as other kingdoms: Errenous. Top kingdoms often trade more frequently than any other kingdom in the game. The better your crew is, the higher expectations and requirements there is. If you go away for for a few hours, they often arrange a sitter. The higher up on NW charts, and the tougher your environment is, the more such trading activity there is (in most cases from what I have witnessed).

Top 50 dont need the bonus trades: Could be. With the new system there will be a far higher motivation to struggle for a top50 position. And I DO think that is a pluss.
I also think it’s a pluss that it may take a kingdom more than half an age to go from ghetto to besting all other except 49 other kingdoms, and securing a top50 position. Utopia needs to be a challange to people, take that away and you just sit on a reward-less routine thing that demands you to do the same things over and over again.
No. This looks good. It’ll balance out, and according to need OMAC will fine tune to make sure this is correctly evened out between beeing a bonus for success and still leaving any kingdom the ability to compete.
NOTE: notice that there isnt that big a difference between these two kingdoms:
    - 25 elite pro gamers
    - 1 elite pro gamer and 24 very punctual and active players that enjoy the game!

It’s worth a try. Hit it, OMAC! And dont worry about the nay-sayers. They’ll come around as always. If they struggled before they’ll struggle today. Only the commited people who could set utopia as first priority in life ever did strike success. It’s not so much about the game mechanics, as it is the players themself. They’ll find their niche, as they did before. And the game will be as it was (possibly more of the “intense success-seaking” kingdoms, and less of the relaxed “we’re here to enjoy the fun in logging in once / day” kingdoms

  41. Erafiel Says:

With that, perhaps increase the ingame money flow ? Less inactives = harder to find decent plunders / Rob Vaults targets.

  42. Vali Says:

congratulations OMAC ! i think u’re on the right track of ressurecting this game

  43. KillerPigeon Says:

cAN YOU PLZ AT LEAST TELL US WHEN WE CAN EXPECTG THE RACE CHANGES AND STUFF, PLZ LET THEM BE IN BEFORE END OF AGE !!

    THNX A LOT

  44. KillerPigeon Says:

    ahh crapy capslock button

  45. bay Says:

THE RACE CHANGES plz plz plz

  46. Graf Says:

WHERE IS THE FREAKING RACE/PERSONALITY CHANGES???

  47. Yedibela Says:

Radical changes, I am sure it will attract a lot of new people to the game. It will be amusing to see what these changes will lead. :)

  48. Salomo Says:

I like the new features in general, it is a good step to move away from the not functioning ban on sitting and trading. If possible, i’d suggest to ammend some details though:

    - The sitting should be limited to 5 provinces per KD at any given time. I.e., no KD should have more than 5 provinces being sitted at the same time.
While not fully excluding possibilities of abuse, this would make more extreme abuse more difficult.

    - War win rankings should be included in the bonus trades deal. Every level of war reputation (famous, notorious, etc.) should add 1 bonus trade option.
I don’t think all these bonus trade should even be needed. But i think KDs going for war wins should be rewarded the same way as KDs going for NW or honour.

And last, but most important, enforcement of the rules should be handled more stricter after these new rules are released. All currently traded provinces should receive an amnesty and be given the chance to adapt their account details to the new owner of the province. After that, trading and sitting laws should be enforced strictly.

However, one more thing the enforcement of the rules would require is the option to inform Utopia of location changes. When i travel from europe to asia i should get the option to tell utopia “Hey, i’m travelling to XX, so if you see my login suddenly comming from that country, it’s just cause i’m travelling.”

  49. goodz Says:

If you do for some insane reason intend to make 0 game changes, can you post that so we can start thinking strategy for next age:P

ORCS again! with gnome BK’s anyone?

  50. Doomey Says:

Ridiculous changes. Way to cater to the SK’s and alliances. You’ve given them extra tools to massage their current trading practices and given them more help for vacationers. What do you give the other 75% of Utopia? A pay sitting service? Wow, that helps, half of the provinces won’t pay and we’ll still be in the same state we are already in.

Half of the game if not more is supposed to be kingdom building. Building a unit from what you have. You’ve just taken that away and ensured that there will be NOBODY around in the lower half to teach them how to play or how to operate a kingdom. Horrible change.

You do realize that now people are going to kill off new players in any decent kingdom to make room, right?

    WolfDGrey,
How does this “update to 2009″ and current gaming? By stacking the deck for the people who were already stacking it under the table for years? Make some changes to the GAME not legalize things that were already happening to unbalance it.

  51. Jojo Says:

OMAC u are calling old players back…
and new players will be killed and kicked by ppl…

    what are you thinking??
you cant even to attract new players to join in…with the things..

and more peoples continues play the game also coz of games change every age…
    plz dont be stupid…plz..

  52. Rye Says:

Guys, Sk’s been having their way for ages, nothings gonna change that.
Not everyone can compete with top kingdoms, just leave it be.
Unless you want to set your alarm clock to wake up in the middle of the night (doubt alot of mom’s/dad’s would allow half the kids that play/complain about this game do that) then hush your mouth.

It takes alot of time an effort to play in most super kingdoms, and not many that play this game can handle it. Your basically on call al the time.

So no matter what we do, or changes that are made, there wil always be that seperation between the top an bottom

  53. Rye Says:

    And another thing.
Atleast now those new to the game will have a chance to play with their friends, now that legal trading is here.

  54. Mellian Says:

The one limitation I want to see put on babysitting is that the babysitter can’t use the province to attack anything or send out aid to anyone during the babysitting period. They should just be in there to keep the province going while the official owner is away or unable to log in.

That will go a long way towards keeping the abuse down.

  55. Dean Says:

You just lost a 24 age player. It’s a shame, this was a great game with minimal corruption, now they’ve made it a part of the game.

    Best of luck players.

  56. Camel Says:

well i see that these changes might be important to you OMAC. so you have defined what is cheating and what not and so you can apply your rules. so you’ve made trading and moving legal… well its not gonna change a thing. Superkingdoms will still trade players the old way if they have to. To be honst the majority doesnt give much about these changes. you just make it more complicated… fine. but what really pisses players off is that there are no race changes. that’s what kept the whole game alife. racechanges. to adopt to the new race rules and see who can adopt faster and better. that was the REAL fun about the game. what you’re doing is BS

  57. Ryba Says:

Just cause I still see people talking about abuse of the system and stuff, I’d like to reiterate my suggestion which helps prevent abuse (and/or at least get people to comment about how it could be abusive if it is)

My suggestion is around the “bonus” trades stuff.

  58. Doomey Says:

Rye, new players won’t necessarily be able to play with their friends. They are just as likely to be killed off out of the gate to make room for older players and dupes. Don’t see a lot of kingdoms wanting to make room for somebody’s new friend.

  59. napalm Says:

Thanks for effectively destroying Utopia. I’ve been playing for three years and I doubt I will be playing next round.

OMAC = The Destroyer of Worlds

  60. Ezzerland Says:

I suggest OMAC spend some time learning about the game, it’s history, and what’s it like to play it, on all levels.

To use some form of chess analogy.. you’re moving the right pieces, simply in the wrong places.

  61. Mazzix Says:

Seriously, I see a lot of whining about those new trading rules.

But really, back a few years ago, been playing in some pretty good kingdoms, that were doing pretty well in the charts and all, winning wars. Some guys from those kingdoms were traders. I knew it since what are the odds some of them were roomies? After 3-4 ages, somehow they got caught, deleted. Next age, noticed new traders.

When I build from scratch in a new kingdom, I almost always noticed traders.

You guys say OMAC is taking the game down. I think OMAC did the same as lots of people wish for cannabis and prostitution. They legalize something that is out of control. They legalize something that could help common players that don’t cheat to really have some competition with the traders, those top chart kingdoms that traded and got away with it.

Siting is a bad idea? I’ve seen few kingdom mates taking control of other kingdom mates provinces to get those pre-war waves a boost.

I personnaly believe OMAC really spent time to learn about the game and its history.

Traders got punished sometimes. But do you have any idea how many times traders got back togethers after deletion? And back to the top charts when they were good?

Open your eyes people, Utopia is not Wonderland. It was already unperfect as it was before. OMAC is just trying to do some change and see the result. They don’t want to see it die. They make change and will make more as a human being lift one feet to walk and doing so takes the risk to lose balance and fall.

No change = not moving = not getting better = maybe worst then staying at the same point.

Also, in my opinion, the ones who should really be afraid of those changes should be:
-people that are already trading and that will see in those changes a real challenge to their power since everyone will be able to build up their kingdoms.
    - People that are not very social and could not find friends to share a kingdom with them.
    - People that takes this game too seriously and could only accept trading in order to boost their own kingdom with 25 super players and unfortunatly don’t know any!
-People that play selfishly and couldn’t get the attention of good players to get in their team
    - people that are scared of changing….

This list could be longer, but I’m too sleepy now.

Finally, seriously, the only way OMAC could have destroyed this game would have been to make it pay to play.

  62. Jimmy Mo Says:

What time is the age going to start on Nov. 4th? And what time zone is this game based off of? Important to inform us on that.

  63. idk Says:

i agree with mazzix on this, so many ppl whining yet if u guys did really play for ages u should knw trading been done since the beginning.

many of those top KD got to where they are is not by chance, many r RL frens who manage to get an ID in the same KD.

this new option would bring back some players who see a point at having a more active and competitive gameplay, a chance go for top KD.

  64. Spartan Says:

Im playing this games more then 10yrs….your new rules really destroy the games…..
Better implement old rules then this one…..i hardly disagree.

  65. KillerPigeon Says:

i assume that these rules only apply for wol.. so in gen we still get to kd build, sad thing is there isnt much time to do so..

    suggestion;
maybe you can set up antoher server to experiment this shit on and if it works properly, you can adjust a bit and put it in wol..

We REAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLYYYY WANT RACE CHANGES NOW OMAC!!!!!!!!

  66. KillerPigeon Says:

i assume that these rules only apply for wol.. so in gen we still get to kd build, sad thing is there isnt much time to do so..

    suggestion;

we would like our changes in races asap omac.. if you know m spread them plzz

  67. KillerPigeon Says:

whoops siad sh*t plz dont ban me :P

  68. Christoffer Andersson Says:

hmm… ppl complain that top 50 will recive more trades. Oki, this is how it will work if you promote the less good kd instead of the good kd.

the kd who are top 50 this age will take a real summer age and stay out of top 50 until they have recived the amount of trades they need. They will opt to get what they need.

And if they didnt, this change whould do more or less nothing. The top 50 kd are the kd’s with problems, so this change whould do nothing if they whouldnt get the option to become legit.

Good change omac, looks like it can prevent abuse.

  69. Firebox Says:

Well i find this idea quite interesting…

I agree with the suggestions to increase the trade bonus proportionately with the KD’s rank. e.g
    1-50 -> 1 bonus trade per 20 days
    51-100 -> 2 bonus trade per 15 days
    150-250 -> 3 bonus trade per 10 days
    300-999 -> 4 bonus trade per 5 days

The trading system would most probably not affect the super kds much, as they already are super to begin with.
It would probably affect mid-range kds most, allowing the more serious monarchs in these kds to ‘recruit’ better players.
Getto kds would be worst affected as these better players would rather defect to the mid range kds.

What happens is that the better players in getto kds would move out to mid range kds, thus removing many of the usless gettos. This means lesser number of kds out there.

So maybe, we can reduce the total number of provinces per kd from 25 to 20!! Wow! wouldn’t that be great? Thats 5 less id1ots for monarchs in mid range KDs to worry about!

Or maybe limit the amount of time each person can log in per hour!
e.g: Each hour gives 10 mins of log in time. It stacks up to 120 minutes at most. So if you log-off for 12 hours, the next time you log in, you get to stay online for not more than 120 minutes. If you log-off 13 hours, you still get 120 minutes. The moment you run out of time, you will not be able to login until the next tick, where you get to login for 10 mins. :)

Or allow battles to occur between EARTH and UTOPIA!!! Cross dimensional battles!!! LOL this is just random :)

  70. brenton Says:

Firebox - The problem with that system is that a top kd can choose where they are on the charts. They could pump in 300th position until they got enough trades then quickly whore up into the top50.

If there was to be a difference in kd ranks, it would HAVE to be the higher the rank = better, because otherwise it is open to abuse. Unless the difference was so minimal that it was obsolete.

With that being said, the top kds do NOT need the bonus. Therefore it is only fair that every kd is on a level playing field.

  71. Rye Says:

Really, who cares what the top 50 do anyways, their always the same kingdoms fighting it out since I can remember. Just cause these changes about trading/sitting an all are coming out and being made legal, that doesn’t mean everyone will have a chance at the top….you still need 23 active players and 2 players that has no life that can play, and no, the game will not fall cause of these changes.

There will be more coming in than those on the way out, trust me.

There are 700+ other kingdoms to fight it out with for braggin rights, make some new friends, train them up and have fun…stop complaining.

The only thing I’m hoping that OMAC will do is some race tweeking…..cause that really is the most exciting part of the game…if they don’t do any, many will be pissed.

And Doomey, my post about new players playing with their friends was a sly comment towards those thinking that the bottom kingdoms will suffer.

The bottom suffers now as it is, if people are not willing to put an effort into playing, they will naturally be killed off regardless, but with over 700 kingdoms out there, exactly how many do you think will consist of only close friends/buddies?

Do you think there will be no room left for these guys anywhere?

I rekon there will be ALOT more mediocre kingdoms now because of these changes and alot more exciting mid-high end kingdoms fighting it out…thats where the action will be.

  72. ray Says:

    top kds should get nothing.
lower kds should get extra trades (but i doubt they would even use it).

why make top kds better, while garbage kd people are slowly leaving..

  73. Goodgame Says:

I really don’t have a problem with the whole trading idea to help build strong kingdoms… however, like a majority of people have expressed, the way you are intending on implementing the trading/sitting system is not going to benefit the community.

Paying for sitting, although its cheap, sucks because its sure to eventually lead to more opportunities only available to those who pay… this is just breaking the ice for those business tactics.

Giving more credits to kingdoms that are already doing well does not make much sense to me… seems better to give benefits to kingdoms that are struggling to increase the amount of competition rather than increase the gap between SK’s and ghettos. Giving benefits to top kingdoms will only encourage players off the ranks to leave the game.

And for Pete’s sake, are there even going to be any race/personality changes this age?? That is the most exciting part to the beginning of each age and if you have focused all of your time and resources to implement a new server (which I must say is needed), and an incommensurate trading system you are not going to gain much popularity with this community. Most suggestions from the common people of this game wish for new and exciting races/personalities (like the avians or undeads of the past), and I too believe that tangible in-game changes like those will gain more players than the current suggested changes.

  74. RuSh Says:

I do not particularly like the changes to come, but I am interested to see how it pans out. One thing I do know however is that every single person here is going to be disappointed if their is no race/pers tweaks for the coming age. Honestly who wants to play this same age over again, trading or not?

  75. Ras Says:

    Totally agree with Rye..

Even you dont implenment trading system.. strong kingdom will still commit illegal trading/draft for better players..

it’s all the same.. the strong kingdom will stay strong with or without the new trading system..

but this trading system will help weak kingdom to speed up in their kd building process.. and hopefully attract more players.. or retired players to rejoin as they can play with their old buddies or RL friend as they always wanted..

but the bonus trading system is abit imbalance.. and it;s kinda funny.. why those top 50 that already has 25 of their bestmen/women to be swapped or trade away to another kingdom ??

Let’s hope there is less alliance bullying.. and less farm kingdom..

  76. KillerPigeon Says:

Give us the racechanges NOW.. dont make us rebell on you omac :P

  77. DrAlex Says:

Hemingway never seemed to mind the banality of a normal life
and I find, it gets harder every time
So he aimed the shotgun into the blue
Placed his face in between the two
    and sighed, “Here’s To Life!”

Real race changes please. Next time please declare them like 1 week before the age ends so people can prepare instead of scrambling around. This is another place where SK’s have an advantage.

  78. Mizphit Says:

Wow, I’ve been playing for almost 7 years and i’m considering quitting… It just doesn’t seems right…

  79. kyte Says:

this has good things and bad things:

I like the account sitting way. and making it cost is a good way to reduce some, and making it cheap means it isn’t that bad considering.

But, there still should be a few things to consider:

1: Keep vacation mode. Helps those who don’t want to pay from not getting bushwhacked.

2: why reward the top with more trades so they can get even stronger and always be top kds? If you must reward a kd, what about rewarding every kd, but those who had a mediocre age get more. They can reduce their weak links and strengthen their stronger ones… so it balances out and with some good trading and leadership, any kingdom can be top age in the next, and lose it the next from some new kds. Adds excitement to the top charts instead of always seeing the words “Absalom”.. although they get a head start with having plenty of good returning players.

  80. Ake Says:

No game reseted, no race/personna changes…OMAC, do you really want to help this game?!

  81. Dee Says:

-The moved province will revert to its initial state, with initial resources/cash, and 3 days of protection.

So, if a province is moved to another kingdom. It’s like a restart in a kingdom of your choice.

  82. Huntington Says:

still no end reset in sight?

  83. MDY Kieflord Says:

    Hm.
interesting, I have used the trading option before (illegaly) and also had 3 provs in one kingdom (illegaly), there are always ways to do this.
Now the new changes will just make it possible for people to do so legally.
I see great things for people who have struggled to reach their potential yet have no backup because of useless players who just dont get it or dont care.
Now they will have the opportunity to be able to put together a kingdom that is worthy of battling in this game, I for one dont care if it costs a few more pennies to play a good game,
This is just the sort of change that might help to restore some interest in the game, as I am sure most of you are aware this game was on its last legs and an injection of change on this scale will be good for us all.
and yes I have played since age 1 and I think it is long past due..
So instead of fighting the changes, see what you can do to utilise them to your advantage..
I for one look forward to it, I was forced to quit the game for rl reasons and when I had the opportunity to rejoin, I happened to land in a great kingdom, only problem was I joined 2a week and a half before the age ended, thus I had no stay in kingdom option, well now I shall have the opportunity to rejoin this kingdom. I am grateful.
Now if they would just post the rest of the changes ie race etc.
I cannot remember an age when the changes were not posted before age ended.. Till now…………………

    way to go OMAC

  84. simon sim Says:

For those that agreed to the above changes are mostly illegal traders! Those who love the game of challenge through their own wits are opposing these and will most probably quit the game! Please listen to the many and not the few players! I have played utopia since the beginning. Never miss an age but will think about it now. For those who like to play the game honorably will not like the changes!

  85. Dale Says:

I think this argument boils down to the agenda’s of those arguing. Its like arguing who is better: a 5,000,000 NW peasant, or a 200,000 NW prince. They are just different arguments.

If you want to make a super kingdom then no doubt you will be saluting the changes. Heck, now it’s just a little easier to make that super kingdom all by yourself. But, if you play the game for the experience, learning, making friends, teaching or building a kingdom on teamwork then the new changes may well ruin the game for you. It is not hard to see that super kingdoms will become even more super, and likewise, ghettos will become even more useless.

So what will OMAC achieve? In my opinion it will be a game that is suitable for people who already play to continue playing but a game that is almost impossible to pick up if you have no previous knowledge of it. If you don’t get lucky and land yourself in a super kingdom, you will only be exposed to the help of ghetto provinces in ghetto kingdoms. Where as at the moment, if you were in the same situation, you could still find a good province in a ghetto kingdom who may give you help. If OMAC’s changes are to benefit or ’save’ utopia, they should be ones which encourage people to continue to play, but also lure others.

  86. Keeper Says:

If you are a top kingdom, you’re there because you have more than enough good players. Do you really believe that a top kingdom, with 25 provinces, needs a credit? What should they do with it?
And if a kingdom is in top one day before the bonus calculation, and will be out next day, the new kingdom in top will take the bonus for being there at that moment? How it will be if an alliance kingdom is on 51 and the alliance will push down the kingdom from 50 making an organised GB? How fair it will be? Do you think about a punishment system for KDs and alliances that have no honour at all?
On the other hand, if someone don’t want to pay for credits, how will you prevent x-log? Not to mention that PayPal it’s not accepted everywhere in the world. Should those players to give up? Or they’re damned to stay at a medium level …
I think that this changes simplly open Pandora’s Box …
On the other hand, once you change the sistem, probablly it will be hard to switch it back. Think twice!

  87. Tekada Says:

Since age 1, i have played this game. Learned alot from my fellow players. Never was there any Prov trading, and i thought it was for a good reason.
You could not organize a mass kingdom to hold domination.

Your object was to be placed in random KD’s, and learn to play with your kingdom, for better or for worse. Compensate for each others weakness’s.
Now They are trying to get rid of that and turning this game backwards.

Alliances were made to help one another. I didn’t think the game would help you out like this. This is WAR, not the NBA or some Football/Baseball League. Now we can trade you if we don’t like you.

I would only hope that the Devs of this game would actually think about what they are doing. As Dale said, it will now be easier to make that super kingdom. The Devs are not thinking of the new players what so ever and its a hugh disappointment.

And Simon Sim, i have not missed a age yet, for this i will quit. Your forgetting something, it there game they DO NOT CARE!

  88. Max Says:

    This ís not good !!!

I have played this geme since age 3 (age of chaos). During that time so had we boats and much other stuff and the game was very differnt from now . But the game has changed since that days and thats ok . changes is good but not this type of changes .

I belive that you inplant somthing who the most players here have fighting against all this years ,Multis , and alliances whoare made by cheating and babysitting , trading provinses etc.
And now you gona legal that behavor !!! For me is it unbeliveble and the game will loose there status.

I will try and check out the changes but im not sure if im here after theis week

  89. Prince Blood Says:

Might be a nice touch to let people know what is going on instead of burying the announcement & leaving ppl feeling insecure.

Re proposed race changes: nerfing orc, an already nerfed to death race will kill it. Orc is weak. Every wave culminates in Orcs being hit because 2 on leets might as well be 0 when all other races with the exception of the useless DE carry full leets & keep them home. & Orcs can’t handle long wars. Give Orc back his +1def & make him a decent race, again. We need fun races to play

Randoms are a dinosaur - the game favoring bottomfeeders so that a guy who goes out once gets hit 3 x. .

Nerf gnomes? Gnomes don’t need nerfing. The other races need strenghtening. Get rid of DE & Dorf. Bring back Avian with Bloodlust & UD when he was strong. Bring back faerie & freak.

Diversity is what it’s all about.

Sci system? What’s the matter with pumping? Bring back the old sci system & give ppl the choice of running around at game start & not pumping sci or building a strong account that will dominate later on.

Sitters & trades …………… is going to be funny to watch but the game will nvr be the same & that’s in a totally negatory kinda way.

  90. Alex Says:

I agree with most of the old players, I’m not afraid of changing but I am afraid of abuse of this system.
and what’s already stated so many times, it will be harder and harder for new players to learn this game. because I would rather have a close frend of mine on that account or someone I know is a good player, then some n00b we need to learn all the stuff he/she needs to know. But the fun of the game was, you had no choice… you gotta row with the pedals you got.

I really enjoyed this game, you where thrown into a group of 25 people from all over the world, and just find out a way to get along and win wars.
what I enjoyed even more was that you didn’t have to pay for anything… but it was to expect after mehul quitted it would all go down hill from then

    LAST BUT NOT LEAST
    BRING BACK UNDEAD…

sorry just had to say it once more

  91. The Real Bishop Says:

I must say I am VERY dissapointed with your progress. You do not follow the deadlines YOU posted, you still haven’t posted the new GUIDE witch means that either you still don’t have all the races, personalitis figured out or you are just lazy. The game suppost to end on 3rd but it didn’t. The game suppost to restart on 4th, but how should we know what race/persona to pick. Mehul was horrible but you started even worse. Sad but true.

  92. gio Says:

ok.. u can exploit it in ton of ways

one example: KD 1) (a ABS kd for example) 22 ppl go for NW and 3 ppl farm honor
KD 2 (another ABS but is only a example ;) 22 ppl play for honor and 3 ppl become big cows…
one day before EoA Kd 1 and KD 2 switch the ppl and the game is done
Kd 1 win the NW chart kd 2 the honor chart

  93. Itchypoo Says:

You are dealing with totally wrong part of the game!!!

you should fix the war system…bring more life to races personality parts
make it fun to PLAY IT!!! not making uber kingdoms which will dominate the game and ruin it for the weaker players…

Not a single new player will stick to this game when they start raping him!!

Trading killed every online game i ever played…im playing this game for few years now just cuz trading and controlling over the game in that way was not possible…

and one more thing i said sooo long ago when i was a n00b…”when this game starts “asking” cash” from players…this game will be ruined completely…”

NO to trading!!!! and start working on the GAME not on players!!!!

  94. gio Says:

if “The moved province will revert to its initial state, with initial resources/cash, and 3 days of protection” include honor and NW i post a bullshit

    it happen ;)

  95. AL Says:

    Worst. Changes. Ever.

Basically, you’re approving cheating through condoned sitting. Mehul would never have approved that since it violates the tenets this game runs on. Only the top and hardcore players will rule future ages–especially if a player being sat can “cancel” a player sitting at anytime.

Understandably though, you’re looking for a way to improve profits. However, if you alienate players who have been here for years with specially sanctioned cheating (Mehul has taught us a lot over the years, and we respect him in the sense that he strictly enforces beliefs that may make the game unbalanced), you’re going to also be losing a bulk of your player base simply by making this game less playable!

I co-run http://www.maskd.com and we’re currently looking at ways to improve the function in order to attract people to ultimately reach profitability.

If you want to reach profitability, make the game interesting (to attract more people so you can raise advertising prices); tell people your reasons behind your actions (establish trust); and search for alternative payment methods that do not hinder the balance and fairness of the game (such as a select server where only paid people can play with experimental changes, more races, and experimental implementations that you can choose whether or not to implement). Also, figure out ways to encourage players to be on the site longer and you may attract other people.

If these changes are enacted and you do not see a significant portion of players leave, I will be pleasantly surprised (and know that I was wrong).

  96. KaeOz Says:

    Cheers to that, Prince Blood!

To save a lot of time and space, I’ll start by saying that the people have already spoken on my behalf, in terms of the morals and ethics of the game that OMAC is destroying.

For that matter, I’ll be focusing primarily on the mechanics and theoretical drawbacks of the suggested changes.

    1. Province Sitting

First, am I to understand that I must now pay to do what I could get on my other computer and do for free? You figure that one out…

Second, and more importantly, I’m sure everyone can agree that a pretty average length for a war is 3 days. I don’t know about you guys, but I’d sure like to have my 7 best players running the KD during war. Oh wait, now I can! SK’s are obviously going to take advantage of this one; war starts, get your 7 best (minimum required to run a full KD under the limits) sitting all the provinces in the KD, rape and pillage for 3 days, swap your KD back. 3 days at a time + 21 days in an age = 7 wars?

This change should just be removed, completely. It’ll turn SK’s into even greater super powers and it’s pointless beyond redundancy.

    3. Province Trading

“Province trading is now official but STRICTLY limited per round”

Sorry, but I think OMAC misspelled LOOSELY.

3 trades per round? I thought we were off to a good start… Oh? 1 bonus trade per month… 6 trades? Things were getting a bit dodgy at that point… But, then! Top 50 KDs gain an additional 1 bonus trade every 2 WEEKS? Excuse me? Am I understanding this correctly? Under these “STRICT” limitations, top 50 KDs gain a grand total of 12 trades per age?

Even in an average ghetto, that gets 6 trades per age, who exactly are they going to trade into their KD? Don’t worry, I’ll wait… Nobody. And thus, the scale tipped, and the great void between top KDs and ghettoes grew larger.

If the thought of solo SK’s utilizing this wasn’t scary enough, imagine what Alliances, with beyond ample supply of players, will do with this.

If anything, I suggest GREATLY modifying this change to be more in favor of ghettoes and also significantly weaker as a whole:

    - Remove the bonus points completely, they’re the main cause, and thus the problem, of the trading being so overpowered.

    - BOTTOM 30% KDs (ie, ghettoes) get a total 3 trades per age; one trade per month, starting on the first month.

    - Middle 30% KDs get a total of 2 trades per age; one trade per month, starting on the second month.

    - Top 30% KDs (ie, supers) get a total of 1 trade per age; one trade per month, starting on the third month.

    - TOP 10% KDs gain 0 trades per age; the above percentages are divided amongst the bottom 90%

Problem solved. This will enable the bottom KDs to compete more strongly with the KDs above them. The divide between ghettoes and SK’s will close, to some small degree, which will be more beneficial to the game as a whole, as oppose to just satisfying the wants of bitter, greedy old vets.

Finally, I arrive at my last and most urgent point. Where are the game play changes?

  97. Max Says:

i will NEVER pay on single coin for playing !! - it will be the end for me in this game.

And the end of this game !!!

    Sad but true !!

  98. KillerPigeon Says:

are there even going to be any race/pers changes .. i for one am seriously starting to doubt this..

  99. DP Says:

Stop crying. All of you. Official Trading is a good thing. It has always gone on in utopia and every type of KD would trade. I have been in a KD in the top 20 and KD in the bottom 20, and both of them had accounts traded. I myself have taken over provinces in the past so I could get into a KD. Once was to play with a friends KD and once was to get into a KD that an old KD mate recruited me for.

My only complaint is that as stated by KaeOz, KDs get too many trades per age. I think every KD should get 3 trades and that is it. KaeOz plan wont work, because KDs dont start the game ranked. A KD could be top 10% and still get all the bonus trades through out the age if they were a steady grow KD, and not a blitz.

I will agree that the KD sitting is a little stupid. I dont think it should happen at all. It is the same as playing another province, albeit for a short amount of time. If a person isnt going to play for more than 3 days, USE VACATION MODE.

Now here is a reminder for all you players who want to give power to the ghettos. THEY ARE GHETTO FOR A REASON! THEY SUCK TO MUCH TO ORGANIZE THEMSELVES! As I stated, I played in a KD that managed to get top 20 3 ages in a row. I am now in a KD that I find more fun, and guess what? We are in the bottom 100 for our island and I am having more fun here than when I was in the top 20 KD. And if we were to use trades to get ourselves better players, it wouldnt be as fun.

All the ghetto KDs are ghetto for one of three reasons:

    1) THEY SUCK…end of story

    2) They are farms

    3) They understand the true spirit of the game. The spirit of playing with people that you have gotten to know and like. The spirit of playing for fun not compinsation for self inadequacy that they achieve by being in the top 50 in a game that is free that they choose to pay for. The spirit of playing the game and not wasting your time crying about things because they dont help poor little old me. The spirit of the game that while being twicked, is still being maintained by OMAC.

So all of you, just stop complaining. The changes are good and they do balance the game. If we were to make things easier for the ghetto provinces, it would unbalance the game.

This is going to be my only post here, since most of you people just seem to enjoy whining. Not all, just most.

P.S. I dont think KaeOz whines. He outlined his point and said something besides ‘this sucks’ and ‘OMAC is stupid’ and ‘trading is gay’. I just slightly dis agree with him

  100. DP Says:

P.S.S. Paying money for the game isnt new. Swirve rewards were around for a while and they did affect gameplay. New awards for paying money should suprise you guys

  101. DP Says:

Damn. I keep reading more unthought posts by people.

P.S.S.S. Super KDs wont use their trades. Notice how at the end of each age, you have a choice to stay in the KD you are in or not? 90% of the top 10% of KDs ARE 25 PROVINCE KDS THAT HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR AGES! They got great because they only kept the good players and killed of the noobs so they could get more good players until they had 25 top notch players. Theya dont need the trades.

Also, any KD in the bottom 75% of the game will never interact with the top KD except for maybe the very first war of the age. So this wont kill the ghetto KDs. Anything that super powers the top KDs will have almost no affect on everyone else in the game.

So all of you, think before you post. I dont like pointing out how some of you are extremely mentally deficient.

  102. CumLaude Says:

First time I feel like posting something.

OMAC. You simply listened to one part of all the complaints and recommandations. Trading, because this somehow fitted in your business model. Therefore you listened to people who were actually cheating and violating the terms of this game for years. It s like asking the prisoners how to improve the security.

As for the gameplay, race and pers. changes. I suspect you didn t manage to find out how to implementate challenging and balanced changes yet. This however is what this game needs.

As a company you should know that before asking money you need to propose content. At this stage you re killing this game. A real waste of our pleasure and your invested money.

  103. Random Says:

Paying for sitting? This will absolutely destroy the spirit of the game and make it YET ANOTHER “pay more - win more” game. f**k that! There is a reason so many ppl played/plays this game, it’s fair and free.

Games should be about skill/dedication, not money.

  104. Max Says:

Top kingdom ????? A lots of them have trade there provinses during the years and then placed there classmates in there place. They are very powerful becuse they are united even in real world.

It is also very comon that people from ICR chats and other games is joining Utopia and try to replece kingdommebers to there own friends.

theese kingdoms is so called topkingdom - i call them cheaters.

  105. crap idee Says:

    heaven to cheaters. now

  106. Lodex Says:

These are some really dumb changes, its going to rob the heart and soul out of this game, which is to build a team with 24 random people who have never met and try to make something work. Now its going to be about stabbing eachother in the back to get into the top slots, with so many trades going on that it won’t be important to work wtih difficult teamates anymore, you can just axe them and get new people.

This is all really stupid, they should have experimented on Genesis before doing these radical game changing moves. Who are these guys?

  107. Kalon Susko Says:

Lets bring it back to gNoLEm’s post. I couldn’t have typed (said) it any better myself. :)

  108. Zombie Says:

well i think it will create some super kds, it may also help some struggleing kds..but in all, i really dont think it will make a huge difference…our kd has everyone staying, yes we are lucky to have an active crew…but i dont think we will do a whole lot of trading…if any. as for the sitting thing, that is a horrible idea, just waiting for cheaters to exploit, and they will, and paying for it is out of the question for most i talk to…this game has always been free, and if it goes to paying for it, i’m outta here… I have played forever, and love the game, and i will stick around through this, as i think, and hope they will see the problems this will create….i hope i’m not wrong.

  109. Jipoy Says:

its now so bad to play this game anymore….

i’ve been waiting for the changes and still its not up…

i was hoping for the changes to come up and think abit just to kill my time

    and now its horrible..

the trading and etc is killing utopia but benefit for the middle KD, i hope they will think faster than making the players wait and quit… i was thinking of quiting too…

and hopefully mehul will make a new game with a nice set up to think alot…

  110. Jackson Says:

Wow…just wow. “These are some really dumb changes, its going to rob the heart and soul out of this game, which is to build a team with 24 random people who have never met and try to make something work.” WRONG That is not the heart and soul of the game. Did you elect to stay with your KD this last age? If so than you, you my friend, are helping to rob the so called heart of the game. You are choosing to sit and play with people that you already know instead of playing with new people. I like how DP pointed out the obvious. Most people never play against the top 50 KDs. It just doesnt happen. So everyone who is complaining here about how this will destroy the game for the new people and the semi ghetto KDs need to stop making posts here. You guys wont be play against the top KDs.

And this was a large issue. OMAC used the tools that were in place by Mehul before he left and they ended up booting TONS of people. One reason was that they can tell if you log on to two provinces from the same computer, which is against the current rules, even once. This caused people to get deleted for sitting, taking over, or letting their friend play their province. But Mehul wouldn’t delete people for this. Mehul only deleted accounts when they were continuously multi logging on the same computer. So dont give me this garbage about how this would have never happened with Mehul, IT ALREADY DID.

The only thing that I think is stupid is the account sitting. We dont need that. We already have a tool for it that is free. You guys ready for this??? VACATION MODE….Really cool huh?

  111. Zombie Says:

hold on, i stay with my kd, and ofcourse create a new one in gen…my wol acct is my family…at first they were just random ppl, but now they are much more…Gen is just passers bye….my kd in wol, happens to be top 50, with 4 wars and 3 wins….i dont think trading will destroy the game, but allowing sitting might…yes alot of this has gone on anyway, but making it legal isnt a good way to combat it.
i think it would be good to bring in someone who hasnt played, and be able to put them in your kd, so they can be groomed, but over all i think the changes will be abused more than used. ….and YES VACATION MODE!!! if you need it.
so far I am not impressed, and kinda wish it was all being run by mehul again…i still hold hope that they will get it right, but i think the next few ages could be bumpy.

  112. AJ Says:

I pretty much think that the issue on trading should be over by now. SKs will be SKs and ghettos will be ghettos with or without legal trades. I’ve personally restarted several times in ghettos and to be honest some people just don’t care, and it ruins the gameplay for people who get stuck in ghettos.

I don’t see how trading is any worse than having to spend age after age killing half of the KD off because they’re inactive or just don’t play the game properly and don’t listen. Trading should help sort out that issue and players stuck in ghettos who really care about their game would look to improve their play so that have a chance of being found and traded out. It would help consolidate the middle KDs which are the main core of players.

Next is the issue of sitting. I’ve mentioned in the previous blog entry that I’m not against sitting but it should be done with restrictions. the 3-day minimum is good, but I believe more restrictions should be placed on the province being sitted. It is very easy to abuse this for a hostile/war period, so I highly recommend that a province to be unable to conduct offensive actions when it is being sitted. The game has a vacation mode if you really cannot access the game for an extended period of time.

Lastly, AGE CHANGES. The last age has been put in “freeze” which wasn’t really frozen at all for over the past whole day. I’ve never spent the end of the age without AT LEAST preliminary changes, and to be fair even right now the game hasn’t been reset yet. There’s less than a day left of freeze at this rate if we stick with the dates, and I don’t even think the game can start by the end of this week if this goes on.

OMAC, you’ve only spent an age in charge. Nothing is going to come out right if you try to make so many changes and do so many things in a go. The fact that you keep making announcements before you even had the details ironed out AND get them bombarded by so many disgruntled players should be some clue that you’re not doing things right.

  113. AJ Says:

And I think a misconception many players seem to have is that trading was minimal within the game. The only reason that it would have been the case was because the top KDs already have thier members set from trading in previous ages past and don’t need to do it again.

Honestly if the game really wanted to foster interation between players of different backgrounds and experience AND prevent trading and cookie-cutting KDs they should shuffle the kingdoms EVERY age. The fact that this isn’t done means if you eventually you’ll still end up with the same gang every age, even if it’s not an SK and they’re not all from the same backgrounds or locations.

  114. Christoffer Andersson Says:

I friend of mine talked with me about 6 months ago. Asking if he could join my kd. He had overheard me and some other friends discussing tactics, game play, game changes, great memories. He wanted to be a part of this.

He was very suprised when i told him that trading as this whould be called if i’v got him inside my kd was illegal and could get him/ous banned.

he eventually decided not to play utpoia becouse of this.

Now he might change his mind.

  115. Menahem Says:

I won’t give more more comments, cause everything has been said…

    I’d say:
    1) Let’s give it a try and see what it gives, we still can decide wether we continue playing or not. It will be an nice first experience for OMAC too.
    2) Give us the changes for the new age: race, personality, gameplay…
    3) AND LET THE NEW AGE BEGIN!!!

  116. Tekada Says:

Might change his mind because we can now treat him like a NFL draft member o.O?!

The changes need to go. Majority of the Vet players have said the same thing.

Race changes need to be made for a rebalance, thats about it. and the science system needs to go away instead of draining our gold. What was wrong with the system in the first place? DO NOT FIX WHAT ISN’T BROKEN!!!

Also, My kingdom players are all starting to say, disappear because this next age restart is taking to long. In order to keep customers coming back, you make adjustments to what they want, i think thats about how it goes.
I don’t want my kd mates leaving because some random noob in the higher up decided to wait a week.

If they think the changes are so good, why don’t they come and play with us. just make sure to announce where your at.

  117. Lady Rachaela Says:

I agree to much said above, this is bad for the game. But besides that and not starting the game yesterday as posted, no reply to all said above too from omac. What is going on? Please give some answers and get the game started.

  118. Max Says:

bankruped !!! rumers about the financecrises has done the company broken !!

who knows ? they are very found of that we shall pay for the game !!

  119. Max Says:

bankruped !!! rumers about the financecrises has done the company broken !!

who knows ? pay for the game , etc etc

  120. Itchypoo Says:

if you gonna implement this option (and im strongly against it) then give only 1-2 trades PER AGE!!!!!

if you cant make it now….save it for next age but do it right…not like this…in last moment…

make changes to races and pers and start the age!!!!

  121. Jackson Says:

    @Tekada

You really think the most of the vet players have dis agreed with this? There are about 100 posts here. But some are multiple posts by people. That means that under 100 players have posted here. That being said, i doubt that most of the vet players have even read this blog let alone posted. Dont pretend to be smart when you are wrong.

TRADING HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED. By allowing trades to be done legally, it allows the none ‘hardcore’ players to do. This means that ghettos can trade easier now. SKs have not, and will never have a hard time trading. Plus they have already done their trading.

The only issue I have is sitting and bonus trades. You get the three trades and that is it. And no sitting. Vacation mode was put in the game for a reason.

  122. AJ Says:

Just as Jackson said, trading has always happened. I think most of people who’ve been against it so far are just trying to lie to themselves, because of how long they spent in the game without even considering the prospect of trading simply due to that it was against the rules. Trading has happened, is happening and WILL happen whether or not it’s legal. You so called vets should know better than that.

Let’s also remember how trading works. The SKs will just use the system the same way they traded illegally for ages past anyway. This is an entirely different matter for players who are struggling further down the ladder. No one is going to want to trade you into their KD if you’re not a good player, and a good player is not going to want to stay in a ghetto anyway. It’s the same as defecting except that you have the choice of choosing where to go.

  123. Max Says:

    Trading is cheating !!!

The major people here and in the game has that opinion !! That will not make this game moore fun, it will only take spirit out from game and slowly kill it.

The effects by that rule will be a bunch of powerful kingdoms who are close friends and will force others to leave or play on there rules (Diktatoship) and the small kingdom will never get there kingdoms in order becuse all will LEAVE if they end up in a getto.

3 times can you move your provinse and if still is placed in the getto - kill your account and start again 3 more times again

  124. pissed off Says:

you have completly fucked up utop, omac…i hope “your” game dies with you, slowly and painfully

  125. Zombie Says:

well… start the game, and a bunch of complaining will go away, we will deal with the changes, …i wouldnt even post in here if the game was going, cause i wouldnt be so bored. Its obvious you will never please everyone, but that’s just the nature of the beast….but you can please most, by getting it rolling again…i expect a few bumpy ages, and hopefully will smooth out.
    git r done

  126. Tordek Says:

i think that this game should get more advertisements out. The only reason i picked it up was because i sporadically remembered my cousin playing the game, and me trying to sign up but was to young (both to legally sign up and to comprehend gameplay.) . I would recomend puting out ads in sites like addicting games and armor games. If you’ve allready done stuff like this, then ignore my post… I have only been around for one week of this last age so really dont know much about history, ect, and cant choose a side on the argument, but even from the little i have seen it seems like a good game i would like to continue playing. so please, maybe with the extra revenue from sitting, put out a few ads!!!

  127. Little Horn Says:

When is the utopia legends’s server going 2 start? There is no sign of reseting going on. Many are unhappy with your changes, OMAC. You need to take a wise desision that will bring the balance and fairness to this beautiful game. Look before you leap. 10q.

  128. Felix Says:

Whats the point of posting in here it doesnt appear OMAC cares nor is listening if they did they would respond. Just reset the game ALREADY!

  129. Darkfire Says:

    Let the game start!!!!!

Try out and see how things goes and stop complaining. I don’t see much hassle on such changes.

  130. newbie Says:

Please reset the game!! Thanks OMAC !

  131. frezzy Says:

    this is dumb..

  132. Vanclaus Says:

I think TRADE is a very tricky issue. from my experience, good players are always come and go even in top kingdoms, people leave due to internet problem, family problem, sickness, etc, so new players always replace the top players at some point - this matter define the competitiveness in the game as top kingdoms also need to re-adjust their players due to this problem.

But if TRADE system is introduced, Top Kingdoms will recruit members from lower kingdoms (good players) and will never let the new player or newbie to join their kingdom, as a result, newbie always group with newbie, and get battered until they dont want to play anymore. I think TRADE system should not be introduced, it will only benefit top kingdoms, while our point here is to attract new fresh players to make the game more fun (more people more fun). If the number of players dwindling, this game will die at some point. please consider my point of view.

    -System Analyst-

  133. Imper(7:3) Says:

Fuck You OMAC. . .let the game start. . .what are you waiting ass hole. . .

  134. Jackson Says:

    @Vanclaus

Guess what, SK already kill off new players. If you dont know what you are doing, they will kill you and see who else joins. They dont take the time to train new people ever. And the SK NEVER INTERACT WITH 80% OF THE PLAYERS IN THE GAME

  135. Vanclaus Says:

When the game starting anyway? Its like a day late already =/
I understand Imper(7:3)’s frustation (even the F word is abit too much).
We suppose to be in the 48hours freeze time already to interact and start organizing with our kingdom… =/ ugh….

  136. Tucker Says:

Stop crying because people can now choose which KD they want to be in.

Utopia was one of the only games known to man that (if you played by the “rules”) didn’t allow you to play with people you wanted with. That’s why alliances were born in the first place.

That was the main reason utopia never took off - people could not tell a friend and then play with that friend without breaking the rules, mehul killed the one chance his game had to grow - word of mouth.

There are always going to be different levels of gamers in a game. Hardcore raiders in WoW/Everquest can all play together at a level they all want to play at. Casual Dota players can play a game with whoever they choose while the hardcore Call of duty players battle it out. Why should utopian players be restricted in who they game with?

Hardcore players are always going to find their way to the top of any game, there is not point trying to restrict it. If they put in the effort, they deserve to win, while the casual gamers can play with their friends and have a fun time doing so.

Who has hated their monarch for trying to force you to give up your province? or get you to log in for an attack in the middle of the night? Who has hated players in their KD for not showing the same commitment as you do? Well now you can surround yourself with like minded players who are willing to play at the same level as you are, whether you are the casual gamer who just wants to have fun or the hardcore warrer who wants 200 attacks in min time!

  137. Lance Says:

    start the game
    wat r u waiting for…

  138. Alex Says:

Imper I totally agree with you, why the heck did you kill off the orcs… I hate you…
wooptiedoo, this is gonna be one fun age, really really hoping you guys wont be making more screwups after this terrible start.
what ofcourse won’t happen and at this rate this will be my last age… only DE’s for me now…

    RIP orcs we loved/hated you

BRING BACK UNDEAD, and maybe there is some hope

  139. Dale Says:

Perhaps OMAC has a plan to end all this disagreement by giving us something we can all be angry at together - the game not starting.

  140. Jackson Says:

    @Alex

FYI, OMAC has made no game changes. Last age’s changes were Mehul’s, not OMAC’s. Also, all you people bitching about the game starting, get a real life you pathetic people. THIS IS A GAME!!!! You can survive for a few days while this get adjusted. They are having to change the servers, which is no easy thing. Plus, stop bitching about there not being any race changes. Everyone bitches about something each time the races change, and OMAC is trying to make the right balance. Mehul never got the races right, that is why he had to keep changing them. And think about how long Mehul ran this game? Do you think that OMAC will get it right the first time? I doubt it…but unfortunately, all you bitches will be out there will have some crap to throw about how OMAC sucks and Mehul was so much better, and Mehul never fucked anything up.

If you are complaining, GROW UP AND GET A REAL LIFE!!!!

  141. L33tgion Says:

    @ Jackson

If you don’t like us bitching then STFU, wait patiently for OMAC to start the game and stop reading the comments section. This section is meant for feedback. If you don’t want to see others’ feedback keep in that cesspool of a mind you live in and rot.

You’re probably one of those deprived out there that kills off new players, runs more than one account in the same KD and picks on KDs 80% your size and think you’re all that because you managed more than 5 war wins in an age.

    ************
I really don’t want to swear, but OMAC you bastard, I hope you remove the trading system before you shred this game. You’re already shredding many of us. Only the unethical people support you because you’ve succeeded in making them cheat some more.

On the other hand, try to make some radical changes in the races and personality. Like maybe reintroducing the undead and avians while keeping DE. It could set the game to a whole new level and tactical play compared to shitty stuff you’re currently thinking of like prov sitting and trading.

  142. Alex Says:

    @Jackson

“OMAC has made no game changes. Last age’s changes were Mehul’s, not OMAC’s.” (I recon this is the only thing written towards me, you dun hear me complaining about not starting the game… I can use the vacation:P)

so…. why is OMAC saying they didn’t have any changes and why where they thinking about the racial/personalities changes the past 2 days… ohw wait… maybe because these arn’t mehul’s changes.
cause I can’t imagine a race that is already one of the weaker ones(talking about orcs) to make them suck even more, if OMAC was looking over the feedback, they would have given the +1 def back or somthing, not double wage costs and make science costs more… it just ruïns one of the last good parts of orc and that was the economy.

anyways I agree with you on the fact that people who are bitching about starting the game have no life cause it’s all JUST a game. But they do have somthing to complain about since OMAC just isn’t clear about what is going on… and not keeping their promisses.

    plop!

I guess our comments/feedback/curses aren’t even red properly… but I really really hope they do, and take note of this… but probably not, because they don’t give shit about the players, they give shit about how much ads they can place, and how they can let people pay more. if the people who want sitting, trading and all that other stuff is enough, they really don’t care about the veteran players who are complaining now

  143. Jackson Says:

    @L33tgion

    LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!
    LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!LMFAO!!!!!
Look me up, I am in kingdom 18:30 “What Should I Do”. I took over a province from a guy who didnt want to play any more 4 ages ago. I left a KD that had been making it into the top 20 for 3 ages straight and I joined this KD. Look at the KD I am in now. I play this game to play with fun people and have a fun time. My friend was monarch of the KD I switched into so that was how I picked them. I have never killed off a new player WILLING TO LEARN. I kill off inactives all the time though : )

I would like to ask you to not make this personal. You were rude and completely wrong. So if you feel the need to insult me, try to get it right. That way you dont look like a complete idiot…which you very well might be.

    @Alex

If any of you remember far enough back, Mehul posted the changes for the age before he completely handed things over to OMAC. So as I said, OMAC did not decide what was going to be the racial changes.

And everyone is acting as if OMAC is a big evil guy. Mehul chose to give them the game, so give them some credit. If you all liked the game that Mehul created, then give OMAC some space to try and learn how it works. And not just one age. It takes more than one try to figure everything out. I personally will at least stick out a year with them before I ditch on this game, because I still find it to be fun.

The only complaint I have against them now is that there are no age changes posted, sitting, and that the age hasnt changed yet. The only one I feel strongly about is the sitting though.

  144. Ghostwheel Says:

    Ok,

Kingdom trading: I find it stupid to give more resources to the best KDs and leave the worst ones to rot. But really, I don’t care so much about that. Where are the changes? Who has taken a look at all the complaints we’ve made and tweaked the game in the way it needs to go?

Posted on our KD board there is a listing of changes for the next age. So far, nobody in our kingdom is happy with them. Elves are crazy powerful, while orcs and gnomes got their throats slit. There is talk of running an entire kingdom of elves because the other races just don’t compare.

I understand that OMAC is trying to make changes, but listen to the voices of those who play the game. We all miss the undead. Bringing back the Avians would be a nice touch too.

Experiment! Make new personalities! Bring back old races! Add new ones!

Since your goal seems to be fleshing out the world enough that you can charge people to play, then why not illustrate the game? Better yet, set up some mythology. Get a storyline going. Explain WHY orcs, gnomes, elves and dwarves are banding together in kingdoms to fight other kingdoms made up of the same.

Spice it up. Don’t sit there, essentially regulating mechanics of the game that only a few KDs actually care about.

Re.

*I couldn’t agree with you more. Anyone with any sensibility would/will see it the same way. Although I do have to admit to the fact that I’m beyond looking forward to having some of my friends join the kd I’m in ;)

To be fair without or without legal trade most of the players are NOT going to interact with the SKs unless they get picked on at some point in the game. SKs are always actively hunting for active members if they need any, so this change in the system isn’t going to be that much of an impact on them. In fact if this improves the standings AGAINST the SKs it’s actually an improvement in the game. Stop being so hard-headed about trading just because you havent’ done it and it’s been illegal for the past 10 years. I’m beginning to wonder if some of those rambling against trading are just SK members who’re afraid of losing out when trading becomes legal.

As for the age changes I disagree that orcs are overnerfed. They still have some key bonuses over other races as attackers and you have to consider actual player of each race in practice. If you think a race is too weak, just don’t play it. At the end of the age there will be statistics and comments to show what’s right or wrong with it. And Dwarves are ACTUALLY PLAYABLE NOW. Aside of that I’m fine with most of the changes. It’s irritating that people complain about seeing nerfs on their favourite races and dissing buffs on those that they don’t like. Take a closer look, each race still has their penalties and shortcomings. It IS true that elves and DE are overpowered now though, that’s the only thing I’d like fixed… and I’m not biased against EL and DE, I’ve spent more than 80% of my time in Utopia playing either as elf or faery so I’d know better.

I also don’t get all of those players complaining about UD and AV. I can’t even remember if the game actually started with 8 races 10 years ago.

If you want to make a comment, say something constructive. Just using obscenities and rambling about how much you hate OMAC and their new system isn’t going to help. Another dozen or two comments are probably saying the exact same thing as you are, so take a read to see if you have anything more intelligent to say before you click the submit comment button.

AJ, God bless you man, game is good and tough. That’s how a game is.
Every game has its unbalances, that’s what happens when you try tweaking things “just right”. Someone will always get pissed.
Take the game WOW for example, its fun at first till the game gets tough to reach up for the best, someone who lacks the skill cries out, that the game is unfair… etc. But those that have the skill remain quite, because you provide them a challenge. When they wake up to a brand new cup of coffee that tastes like crap whe
